Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an unnecessary background part from being binarized by counting pixels of gradations of density by windows where image data are divided and setting density between double-humped high-density and low-density areas as a discrimination level. SOLUTION: When an image begins to be binarized (a1), division into windows less than the pixels of one screen is performed and they are set (a2). Then image data having gradations of density included in window areas are extracted (a3) and a histogram is generated to calculate the feature quantities of the windows (a4). At this time, the upper and lower limit values of a prescribed density range are set and the pixels included in the density range are counted (a5). The number Fn of pixels is compared with a predetermined pixel number fc (a6) and when Fn<Fc, the window is judged to have double humps, thereby binarizing the pixels by discriminating the density level by the pixels by using the set discrimination level Thw. Consequently, noise components of the background part are removed. |
