Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polycyclic polyhydric alcohol in smooth operability through suppressing adherence of the sublimable polycyclic hydrocarbon as raw material to the inner wall (s) of the reactor and/or pipings. SOLUTION: This polycyclic polyhydric alcohol is obtained by oxidation of the corresponding sublimable polycyclic hydrocarbon with oxygen. The method for the production of the above polyhydric alcohol comprises two reaction processes differing in temperature condition from each other, namely: (A) the 1st oxidation process under relatively high temperature conditions and (B) the 2nd oxidation process under relatively low temperature conditions. The above polycyclic hydrocarbon includes a bridged cyclic hydrocarbon such as adamantane. Optionally, in the 1st oxidation process A, when the conversion of the polycyclic hydrocarbon comes to 60-90%, the process A proceeds to the 2nd oxidation process B. |
