Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter/power generator in which the outward extending amount of a crank shaft is suppressed, when the starter/power generator is provided with a governor mechanism. SOLUTION: A starter/power generator for vehicle is constituted by winding a starting coil 17 and a power generating coil 16 around the stator core of the same armature. In the starter/power generator, a commutator brush mechanism 20 and a governor mechanism 20 are respectively arranged on the inside and outside of an in-rotation magnetic type rotor 11, put on a crank shaft 6 in the axial direction of the crank shaft 6, so that the governor mechanism 30 brings and separats the commutator and brush of the commutator brush mechanism 20 into contact with and from each other.
