Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition which gives high hysteresis loss, fracture properties and processability as well. SOLUTION: A rubber composition comprises 100 pts.wt. of at least one rubber component selected from a natural rubber and synthetic rubbers and 1-120 pts.wt. of a softener containing 0.1-4 wt.% of an asphaltene component wherein a content of aromatic carbon (%CA) of the softener measured according to ASTM D2140 (conventionally referred to as a ring analysis) is preferably not less than 18. The softener is preferably prepared by mixing an asphalt with a processing oil and the asphalt is preferably a straight asphalt, considering easiness of purification of the softener.
