Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-wavelength light source which is efficient and inexpensive. SOLUTION: The multi-wavelength light source comprises an optical waveguide amplifier 11 of a certain length, a multi-wavelength reflector 15 which is optically connected to one end of the amplifier and reflects a plurality of different wavelengths, and a low reflection output 14 connected to the other end of the amplifier. A broad band source 12 is so provided as to send broad band light to the multi-wavelength reflector 15. In the action of the device, the broad band light is sent to the grating 15. The light of wavelength channel corresponding to the reflection wavelength of the grating is, through the amplifier 11, reflected and returned, and further amplified before reaching an output point 14.
