Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate for a characteristic defect by monitoring a movement of a light receptor, and moving a position of a scan line on the light receptor to an appropriate position with the use of the monitor result. SOLUTION: A motion sensor 200 is disposed in the vicinity of a position of an exposure station 24. The motion sensor 200 senses a motion of a charged light receptor belt 10 moving in a process direction, and generates a motion signal. The motion signal is input to a controller 121. The controller 121 compares a pulse responsive to the motion signal with a pulse stored beforehand, determines a positional error between a position where an image area is present and an area where the image area is to be present, and moves a position of a scan line beam 26 on the light receptor belt 10 to an appropriate position. A motion defect of the light receptor belt 10 can be corrected accordingly.
