Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise production efficiency by shortening the necessary time for changing roll pass in a rolling method in which a material to be rolled is moved and passed along a rolling line including a roughing mill train, intermediate rolling mill train and finishing mill train and the material to be rolled is rolled finally to have prescribed dimensions and cross-sectional shape. SOLUTION: By separating the roughing mill train 12 from the intermediate rolling mill train 14 and its succeeding train, the working in the roughing mill train 12 and the working in the intermediate rolling mill train and its succeeding train are made discontinuous temporally. While stopping the rolling lines of the intermediate rolling mill train and its succeeding train, the material 15 to be rolled which is next worked is previously passed through the roughing mill train 12 and stood by at least on one side of a roughing train roller table 46 and a lifting shifter 54. At the time of restarting rolling, the working of the material 15 to be rolled in a standby state is started from the intermediate rolling mill train 14.
