Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To emit the photon number in a specified wavelength band with high efficiency by constituting, in a light transmittable ceramic tubular bulb having a specified length of an arc tube supported within an outer tube, the inside diameter, the distance between electrodes arranged on both end parts thereof opposite to each other, the sodium content in a sodium amalgam sealed therein in a specified ratio, and the lamp voltage for lighting it have a specified relation. SOLUTION: An arc tube having a tubular bulb length of 0.5-4.0 mm, an inside diameter of 20 mm or more, a distance between electrodes on both ends of L cm, a sodium content in sodium amalgam sealed in 0.6 mg/cc or more per inner volume of M wt.% is lighted at a lamp voltage of V volt. In this case, when the expression is satisfied, radiation of a photon number in a wavelength band of 400-, particularly, 600-700 nm is performed with high efficiency. In the expression, Y is an evaluated value with 90Y140. An outer tube containing the arc tube is preferably arranged further within one or more outer tubes. A photochemical reaction in a reacting tank body containing this discharge lamp to which a discharge lamp lighting device is connected is performed with energy saving.
