Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clutch device for an earth drill which is never driven from a released state to an engaging side even if a reel table is carelessly rotated, and dispenses with a positioning work for releasing the clutch. SOLUTION: A clutch member 25 is insertedly provided between a first and a second rotary members 8, 3b provided so as to rotate unitedly with a kelly-bar of an earth drill. The clutch member 25 is moved to transmit the rotation of the first rotary member 8 to the second rotary member or to release them. A clutch device has an energizing means such as a spring 27 to energize the clutch member 25 toward a transmission side and moreover a clutch driving means such as a hydraulic cylinder 34 and a rod 28 which drive the clutch member 25 to a clutch release position against the energizing means. The shape of the clutch member 25 in a contact part 30 with the clutch driving means is composed in an annular shape centering around the kelly-bar 1.
