Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a desired aldehyde simply and in a high yield by formylating an olefin in the presence of a rhodium compound catalyst and using a specific non-aqueous ionic ligand liquid. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aldehyde is provided by reacting a monoolefin with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium compound with a non aqueous ionic ligand liquid of the formula: (Q<+> )a A Q<+> is a singly charged quaternary ammonium and/or phosphonium cation or the like; A is a triarylphosphine of the formula [Ar to Ar are each a 6-14C aryl; Y1 to Y3 are each chlorine, cyano or the like; (m1 ) and (m2 ) are each 0-5, (n1 ) and (n2 ) are each 0-3, provided that at least one of (n1 ) or (n2 ) is >=1]; (a) is (n1 +n2 +n3 )}, in which an amine or a phosphine derived from (Q<+> ), or an alkali and/or alkaline earth metal salt of the triarylphosphine (A<a+> ) presents excessively upto 5 equivalent based on the stoichiometrically necessary amount for forming (Q<+> )a A . |
