Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension member reduced in weight excellent in flexibility and strength by forming a foamed plastic coating layer having specified foaming rate and foam size on the outer periphery of a tensile body. SOLUTION: The tension member 1 is constituted so that the foamed plastic coating layer 1b is provided integrally on a tensile body 1a such as a steel wire and aramid fiber, etc. The foaming rate of the coating layer 1b is 10-50%, and the foam size is 10-400 μm. As the foamed body of the coating layer 1b, the body foaming plastic material is used. As the plastic material, polyolefin resin such as e.g. low density polyethylene, polypropylene, etc., thermoplastic resin such as polyvinyl chloride, etc., are listed. These are used singly or properly mixedly at need.
