Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To alleviate the engaging shock of a clutch when a shift range is shifted from an N range to a D-range with the accelerator stepped on. SOLUTION: A drive control device for a vehicle provided with an automatic transmission and setting the throttle opening of an engine independently from an accelerator opening is provided with a range detecting means 5 to detect the shift range of the automatic; a number of revolutions of engine detecting means 6 to detect the number of revolutions of an engine; and a control means to set a throttle opening to approximately full closing when the number of revolutions of an engine exceeds a given value when it is detected by the range detecting means 5 that a shift range is shifted from a non-running range to a running range, and set the throttle opening to a given limit value higher than zero during a time in which the clutch of an engaging gear has sufficient capacity after the lapse of a given time commencing from a time when the number of revolutions of an engine is decreased to a value lower than a given value.
