Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a high-performance active matrix substrate on a light weight substrate by bonding a second substrate composed of the desired material such as plastics onto a TFT active matrix element and removing a first substrate later. SOLUTION: As an adhesive layer, epoxy resin is applied onto a TFT active matrix glass substrate produced by an ordinary method and further, a plastics substrate composed of polyester is bonded. Next, a glass substrate is ground and removed by making the plastics substrate being the base by chemical mechanical grinding. Next, the ground surface is coated with an orientated film ORI2 for orienting liquid crystal molecules and after burning, rubbing treatment is performed. Finally, on the other surface, a light proof film 512, color filter film 507 a counter electrode 510 made of ITO, a counter substrate 508 composed of plastics forming an orientated film ORI1, to which orientation processing is performed, and the previously formed TFT substrate are arranged while being opposed, a light crystal composition 506 is sealed among them and a liquid crystal cell using the plastics substrate is completed.
