Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce in weight and volume slag, to make it no harm and to realize a resource recycling. SOLUTION: The ash melting furnace 1 melts a fly ash and an incinerated ash. And, the furnace 1 is constituted to have two chambers of an ash melting chamber 2 and a slag-property regulating chamber 6. The chamber 2 communicates with the chamber 6 via a communicating passage 7. A main electrode 8 and a furnace bottom electrode 10 are arranged at an upper part and a bottom of the chamber 2 and an auxiliary electrode 9 and a furnace bottom electrode 11 are arranged at an upper part and a bottom of the chamber 6 so as to be vertically opposed to one another. And, a melted slag property regulator 12 is provided near the chamber 6. The regulator 12 has a sensor 13 for sensing properties of a melted slag 17a arranged near a slag hole 5, a regulating agent supply unit 14, and a controller 12a for controlling the unit 14 according to a signal from the sensor 13.
