Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electrolyte at a low cost by using a homogeneous solvent mixture for polymerization in copolymerizing a (metha)acrylamidealkylsulfonic acid (salt), a specific tertiary or quaternary ammonium salt monomer and a specific hydrophobic monomer. SOLUTION: When an amphoteric and amphipathic polymer electrolyte is produced by copolymerizing a (metha)acrylamidealkylsulfonic acid and/or a salt thereof, a tertiary or quaternary ammonium salt monomer represented by formula I and a hydrophobic monomer represented by formula II, a mixture of a lower alcohol and saline water or a mixture of a lower ketone and saline water is used as a solvent for polymerization (in formula 1, R1 is hydrogen or a 1-2C alkyl group; A is oxygen atom or NH; X is an 1-8C alkylene group or alkenylene group; R2 is hydrogen or an 1-12C alkyl group; and R3 and R4 are each a 1-12C alkyl group; and in formula 2, R and A are the same as R1 and A in formula 1, respectively; and Y is an 1-30C alkyl group). |
