PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact apparatus for treating the excrement of domestic animals without using chemical agents and others and without running costs, and a method for the apparatus. SOLUTION: Excrement is treated by using an apparatus constituted from sieves 1a-1c for segregating the excrement of domestic animals such as a pig, the first dewatering machine 2 for separating solid and liquid which passed through the sieves 1a-1c, the first group of aeration tanks of at least one aeration tank 3a, 3b for aerating the separated liquid equipped with a compressor 4 and an ozone generator 5, the second dewatering machine for treating the liquid which passed through the first group of aeration tanks, the second aeration tank 7 which aerates the separated liquid again and can be equipped with an ozone generator, an ultraviolet irradiation area equipped with an ultraviolet irradiation means communicating with the second aeration tank 7, and at least one column 9a, 9b filled with ceramics.
