Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide excavation control techniques for a casing driver capable of adequately controlling a rotation torque of a hydraulic motor occurred during excavation in a manner suited to the desired conditions. SOLUTION: In order to adequately control the rotation torque of a hydraulic motor when excavating the ground with a casing pipe 10 by using a casing driver, a casing pipe 10 held by a casing gripping band 9 is raised by a thrust cylinder 6, and a cutter bit 26 is separated from the ground and rotated by a hydraulic motor 12. Under this condition, a drive pressure of the hydraulic motor 12 is measured by pressure sensors 30a, 30b, a peripheral friction torque is determined from the measured results; at the time of excavating the ground, the casing pipe 10 is pushed in by a thrust cylinder 6 in such a manner that the actual value of the rotation torque of the hydraulic motor 12 obtained from the measured results of the drive pressure of the hydraulic motor 12 becomes very close to the sum of the peripheral friction torque and a set value of the excavation torque set in advance so as to suite to a desired peripheral friction torque.
