Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet ink having excellent decappability, edge sharpness, rapid drayability, water resistance and stain resistance, and high optical density by using a water-soluble macromolecular chromophare, an ionic surfactant and an amphoteric surfactant. SOLUTION: This ink jet ink comprises (A) a vehicle composed of (A1 ) 0-30 wt.% of an organic solvent, (A2 ) 1-10 wt.% of a water-soluble ionic surfactant with polarity X e.g. a compound of formula I [R1 to R4 are each a group of the formula: (CH2 )n CH3 ((n) is 0-25)], a compound of formula II}, and (A3 ) 0.01-20 wt.% of an amphoteric surfactant [e.g. a compound of formula III (R1 to R3 are each a 10-23C alkyl, aryl or the like)], (B) 1-20 wt.% of a water-soluble macromolecular chromophare chemically modified so as to contain a pigment bearing functional group with polarity opposite to the polarity X of the component A2 , and (C) water.
