Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evade the electrical failure due to the sliding in contact between a magneto-resistance effect head and a magnetic disk medium with respect to a magnetic disk device for recording/reproducing by bringing the magnetic head into contact with the medium. SOLUTION: The magnetic disk device is provided with a magneto-resistance effect element 4 to record/reproduce the information by bringing it into contact with the medium surface of the magnetic disk. When the recessed amount 5 from the medium surface of the magneto-resistance effect element 4 is <=15 nm, a sheet resistance of the medium surface of the magnetic disk is made to <=5 Ω/square, and when the sheet resistance is >=5 Ω/square, the recessed amount 5 is made to >=15 nm. To obtain the high frequency performance, the waviness period of the medium surface in the running direction of magnetic head is made to >=2 μm, and also the surface roughness (Rmax) is made to <=1 nm.
