PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a patterned foil yarn, capable of imparting a pattern having a deep appearance rich in depth perception and capable of patterning at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method for producing patterned foil yarns comprises inputting the data of a three-dimensional shape into a memory device by use of a scanner, using as a patterning raw material a sheet-like substrate (a) to whose surface a >=5 μm thick coating (b) comprising crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol is applied, forming a monochromatic or multi-chromatic pattern on the coating (b) applied to the sheet-like substrate by use of an ink jet printer on the basis of the three-dimensional shape data inputted into the memory device, cutting the patterned sheet-like substrate, and subsequently weaving the obtained pattered foil yarns together with other yarns.
