Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a printing paper suitable for a high speed offset printing. SOLUTION: This printing paper is provided with a gate roll coated layer composed of a water absorption resisting composition consisting of two components of a cationic water soluble polyacrylamide and a water soluble anionic copolymer consisting of a monomer having a hydrophobic substituting group and a monomer having carboxyl group or sulfonic acid group, as main components on the raw paper for the printing paper containing >=30 wt.% mechanical pulp as a pulp component and <=10 sec drip water absorption rate (according to the Japan TAPPI No.33, and measured at 1 μl drip amount of water). The gate roll coated layer thereof is coated at a speed of 1100-1800 m/min and the drip water absorption rate thereof is >=60 sec.
