Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject copolymer suitable for hygienic and industrial uses, food industry, biotechnology and medical uses, capable of avoiding and controlling the adhesion and growth of bacteria on apparatus, tool, etc., by including a specific monomer. SOLUTION: This copolymer comprises (A) at least one sulfonate group- containing monomer (e.g. styrene sulfonate or vinyl sulfonate), (B) at least one carboxyl group-containing monomer (e.g. acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or maleic acid), (C) at least one NCO-reactive group (e.g. hydroxyl group, a primary or a secondary amino group) introduced after copolymerization and preferably optionally (D) at least one functional group-containing other monomer. Preferably the molar ratio of the carboxyl group to the sulfonate group is 0.1-10. Preferably the mol content of the NCO-reactive group based on the whole functional value of the copolymer is 5-20 mol.%.
