Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain compressed powder improved in purity, activity, selectivity, etc., by compressing powder obtained by drying a mixture of a specific silicon dioxide with methyl cellulose, microwax and/or polyethylene glycol and water and carrying out heat treatment of the compressed powder. SOLUTION: A volatile silicon compound is sprayed into a detonating gas frame comprising hydrogen and air to hydrolyze the silicon compound to afford silicon dioxide comprising >99.8wt.% SiO2 content and <0.2% other component content, having 0.8-200μm outside diameter, 30-400m /g BET surface area, 0.5-1.3mL/g pure volume and 10-250N breakage strength and having <5wt.% wear rate and 350-750g/L apparent weight. The silicon dioxide in an amount of 50-90wt.% is mixed with methyl cellulose in an amount of 0.1-20wt.%, microwax and/or polyethylene glycol in an amount of 0.1-15wt.% and water and the mixture is dried at 80-150 deg.C and compressed to provide the objective compressed powder having 0.8-20mm outside diameter. The compressed powder is heat-treated at 400-1200 deg.C for 0.5-8hr. |
