Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject additive capable of improving the cleanness of lubricating oils for engines and reducing the use of ashless cleaning dispersant, by condensation reaction between a specific monofunctional saturated fatty acid (ester) and a specific β-amino alcohol. SOLUTION: This additive having effect of improving engine cleanness consists of a condensate obtained from (A) a 16-24C monofunctional saturated fatty acid and/or a 16-24C monofunctional saturated fatty acid ester and (B) a β-amino alcohol of formula I (R to R are each H or a 1-2C alkyl; X is H or formula II).
