Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a propelling head to continuously and smoothly propel without any trouble, when it is put in contact with an underground obstacle. SOLUTION: In a propelling method, a propelling head 1 is provided with a leading portion 1D having a pressure receiving plane F inclined to a head axial center P and mounted on a head mainbody to be rotationally driven around the head axial center P. A propeller S which is provided with propelling pipes 2 ranging backward of the propelling head 1 to be freely bent is subjected to thrusting force from backside for underground propelling. In this case, the propeller S is previously formed for the bent axial centers X of the propelling pipes 2 to be uniaxial. When the propelling head 1 is put in contact with an underground obstacle W on the way of propelling, the propelling head 1 propels while controlling the leading portion 1D at its rotational position so that the direction of the bent axial center X is or to be identical with the direction of the pressure receiving plane F in the directional view of the head axial center P.
