Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2-oxocyclohexylidene acetic acid enol lactone, enabling to produce the compound in a good yield and in an industrial scale. SOLUTION: This method for producing 2-oxocyclohexyl-idene acetic acid enol lactone comprises reacting glyoxylic acid with cyclohexanone in the presence of a halogen acid, dissolving the obtained crude product B1 in an organic solvent, and subsequently subjecting the solution to a reaction in the presence of a strong acid capable of being dissolved in the organic solvent or in the presence of a strongly acidic resin.
