Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new compound, having strong hypoglycemic actions and useful as a therapeutic agent for diabetes and complications thereof. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (R is a substituted phenyl, naphthalene which can be substituted with a lower alkyl or a substitutable 5- or 6-heterocyclic ring; R and R are each H or a lower alkyl; A is a lower alkoxy or =O; B is H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy, etc.; either one of dotted line parts is a single bond and the other is a double bond), e.g. 5-[(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)methyl]-2-methylthio-6-trifluoromethyl-4(3H)- pyrimidinone. The compound represented by formula I is produced by reacting a β-keto ester derivative represented by formula II (R is a lower alkyl) with a compound or a thiourea represented by formula III (R is H, a lower alkylthio or a lower alkyl) in a solvent (e.g. methanol) at ambient temperature to the refluxing temperature of the solvent. |
