Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm an area, in which an image can be next fetched, on the screen of a monitor concerning a video printer with which an image memory for holding image data is divided into plural areas, plural images are fetched and the plural fetched images can be displayed on the monitor, confirmed and printed out later. SOLUTION: The data of a least significant bit(LSB) in the luminance data of respective picture elements are preserved in a buffer memory part. The luminance data of respective picture elements in the image already stored in the area designated as an image fetching position are shifted toward low-order bits for one bit, '0' is inserted into a most significant bit MSB), and luminance data for fetching position display are generated. Thus, the fetching area is displayed while making the luminance of the fetching area lower than that of the other area on the screen of the monitor. At the time of printing, the luminance data before bit shift are restored while using the data of LSB preserved in the buffer memory part.
