Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a hydrophilic coating film on a polymeric support. SOLUTION: A hydrophilic vinyl monomer is grafted onto the surface of a polymeric support by radiation-induced polymerization. Advantageously, the vinyl monomer has a water solubility of at least 20g/l at 20 deg.C. The surface of the support is activated by using ultraviolet rays having a wavelength region of 100-400nm, a high-frequency plasma, or a microwave plasma. Advantageously, the grafting is induced by using ultraviolet rays having a wavelength region of 260-500nm. The support coated with a hydrophilic coating film is suitable for engineering, medical or biotechnological purposes. |
