Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the adhesion of electrostatic coating particles to an electrostatic coating apparatus and its surroundings by a method in which the first and second electrodes which are charged in the same polarity with the charge of coating particles are provided, and the second electrode having a greater distance from the rotary axis of an atomizing head than the first electrode is fixed behind the front end of the first electrode. SOLUTION: Charged coating particles fly to the side of a substrate 7 by electrostatic force and the blasting force of shaping air. Part of the particles are attracted to an electrostatic coating apparatus 1 which is grounded and fly, to the side opposite to the substrate 7, backward from a needle-shaped electrode (the first electrode) 5. The particles, outside an area strongly affected by the action of the first electrode 5, try to fly behind the first electrode 5 place. However, since the flying particles are returned forward (substrate 7 side) by being repelled electrically by the second electrode of the same polarity installed backward which has a greater distance from the rotary axis 3 of an atomizing head 2 than the first electrode 5, the adhesion to an electrostatic apparatus 4 and its surroundings is checked.
