Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a metal disulfide by reaction of a mixture composed of metallic Sn and a specific metal or its sulfide with S and Sn or a metal halide in the presence of a halide in an inert atmosphere. SOLUTION: First, a compressed mixture composed of 1mol of metallic Sn powder, Me (Ti, Mo, Fe, Cr, Ta, Nb, Mn, W or Cu) powder and/or Me sulfide powder, >=3mol of S powder and a halide capable of entirely decomposing residues such as NH4 Cl is brought into a boat-shaped graphite vessel, and the resultant vessel is introduced into a pressure oven fed with N2 gas. Subsequently, a reaction is carried out in the oven at about >=450 deg.C for about 0.5-5h followed by cooling the reaction product in the cooling zone of the oven, and the reaction product is sieved using a sizer with about 150μm mesh, thus obtaining the objective metal disulfide of the formula: (Snx Me1-x )Sx ((x) is 0.5-1). Furthermore, if needed, S is added to the metal disulfide followed by conducting a reaction at about 600-800 deg.C for about 0.5-5h under normal pressures in a protective gas to obtain the corresponding bimetal trisulfide.
