Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evade a trouble that a user selects an unprintable resolution by mistake and gets a wrong print by reducing a load on a printer and providing an inexpensive printer which need not perform high-speed processing, and automatically using printable resolution. SOLUTION: When a printer 1000 is installed in a host 3000, sample bit map data of proper resolution are compressed by a compression part 103 and sent to the printer 1000. The host 3000 and printer 1000 are connected bilaterally, so the host 1000 can know a print result. When a printing process is successful, the host 3000 sets the resolution as printable resolution. This process is repeated as to other kinds of resolution and successful resolution is set as resolution usable by the printer.
