Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer enabling visual checkup of the state of paper at the outer peripheral part of a platen drum and simple removal of the paper at the time when jamming occurs. SOLUTION: In this thermal printer 21, a printing mechanism part 4 equipped with a platen drum 12, an ink ribbon cassette, a thermal head, etc., is disposed at the back of a front plate 22a of a casing 22 and an ink ribbon cassette replacement port 17 for putting in and taking out the ink ribbon cassette horizontally is provided in the front plate 22a. In this case, the ink ribbon cassette replacement port 17 in the front plate 22a is extended to a position corresponding to the lateral side of the outer peripheral part of the platen drum 12 and opened thereat. The end part of a rotating shaft of the platen drum 12 is made to project to this side of the front plate 22a and a knob 24 for rotating the platen drum 12 manually is provided at the projecting end of the part.
