Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the silver halide emulsion high in sensitivity and low in fog and high in covering power and superior in silver color tone by incorporating a chalcogen compound in the insides of specified silver halide grains. SOLUTION: The silver halide grains contain flat silver halide grains having (100) faces as principal faces and an aspect ratio of >=2 in an amount of >=50% and contain silver halide grains with >=90% (100) faces as end faces in an amount of >=90%. They contains silver chloride in an amount of >=20mol% and their insides contain the chalocogen compound which is the generic term of an ioniganic or organic compound containing at least one element of sulfur, selenium, and tellurium elements and preferably used chalcogen compound can be embodied by thiosulfates, sulfides, thioureas, thioamides, thiocyanates, disulfides, thiosulfonates, and the like.
