Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful for suppressing atherosclerosis and coronary arterial cardiopathy. SOLUTION: This new compound is represented by formula I (R and R together form phenyl, pyridyl ring, etc.; R and R together form phenyl ring, a 4- to an 8-membered cycloalkene, etc.; R is H, a 1-12C alkyl, etc.; R is a 3-8C cycloalkyl; R is a 3-8C cycloalkyl, phenyl, etc.; D and E together contain CH and form a 4- or an 8-membered carbocyclic ring), e.g. 2-(S)-2- cyclopentyl-2-[4-(2,4-dimethyl-α-carbolin-9-yl)-methylphenyl]acetic acid N-(1-phenyl- ethen-1-yl)amide. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by starting from a carboxylic acid represented by formula II, producing an acid chloride and reacting the resultant acid chloride with an amine represented by the formula HNR R suitably in the presence of a base and/or an assistant in an inert solvent.
