Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject remedy which aims at attempting secession from abnormal proliferous states by inducing differentiation of cells abnormally proliferating at undifferentiated states to differentiate to final differentiated cells having the fixed life span and is useful for treating cancer and the like by formulating a specific amyl alcohol derivative thereto. SOLUTION: The objective medicine is obtained by formulating an amyl alcohol derivative of the formula (* is an asymmetric carbon; R is an aryl; R is a cyclic amino; R is H or an acyl; P is an alkyl, an aralkyloxycarbonyl or the like), obtained by treating an optically active N-protective-2- aminoalkandiol in a solvent containing pyridine to mesylate and treating the resultant product with an amine in an organic solvent, or its pharmaceutically permissible salt [e.g. (1R,2R)-2-benzyloxycarbonylamino-3-pyrrolidino-1-phenyl-1- propanol].
