Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for tire treads, excellent in performances on ice, abrasion resistance, tearing resistance, extrusion stability, etc., in virtue of its ability to efficiently absorb and exclude a liquid layer on ice causing a decrease in a coefficient of friction without increasing the number of foams acting as failure nuclei in abrasion and a pneumatic tire made therefrom. SOLUTION: This composition is prepared by mixing 100 pts.wt. rubber component comprising a natural rubber and/or a synthetic diene rubber with 1-40 pts.wt. thermoplastic resin (desirably polyethylene or partially modified polyethylene) having a melting point of 80-160 deg.C and a density of 0.92-1.0 and 1-30 pts.wt. cylindrical fibrous material (desirably polyester or partially modified polyester) satisfying the requirement: (1) and (2): (1) L1 /D1 >=5, 0.5 mm<=L1 <=10 mm, and 1.0 μm<=D1 <=1,000 μm (wherein L1 is the length of the cylindrical fibrous material; and D1 is its mean particle diameter) and (2) the melting point of the cylindrical fibrous material is 150 deg.C or above.
