Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a porous ceramic material having water-cleaning and sterilizing effect, keeping a uniform quality, formable to any form and enabling stable supply by adding caowool at a specific ratio to a mixture consisting of oolite powder and sepiolite powder at a specific ratio and baking the mixture at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: The objective porous ceramic material is produced by preparing mixtures of oolite powder and sepiolite powder at a compositional ratio (wt.%) of 80:20, 85:15 and 90:10, adding kaowool to either one of the mixture at a compositional ratio of 0 wt.%, 10 wt.% or 15 wt.% and baking the obtained mixture at 550, 600, 650, 700 or 750 deg.C. When the porous ceramic material is immersed in e.g. tap water, minerals such as Ca and Mg are dissolved from the material and trihalomethanes, organic chlorine compounds and sundry germs are almost completely adsorbed and removed from the water. The ceramic material has stable quality.
