Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an excess thickness part at the edge parts of a strip while reducing the excess thickness near the edge parts of rolls by returning back heat ray to the surface of molten metal in a casting space so as to present that the heat ray emitted from the molten metal just near the end walls during casting operation passes through backlashes in the horizontal direction. SOLUTION: Horizontal projections 17, 17' are arranged at the whole width or a part of the end walls 4, 4' and projected so as to cover the whole length of the parts 16 of the end walls 4, 4' just near the molten metal 9. The projections 17, 17' are served to a screen to the heat ray emitted from the parts 16 of the molten metal 9 and the parts are cooled, and it is prevented to form the end ridge part 15 having thicker than the remained part of the strip 13. The projections 17, 17' support the end ridge parts of a surrounding 6 or project over the end edge parts, and a size X is larger than the backlash . By this constitution, the heat ray emitted from the surface 8 of the molten metal 9 in the casting space 3 is dispersed toward the lower surface 7 of the surrounding 6 and the solidified condition at the part 16 does not so drastically differ from the remained part of the molten metal 9 and the end ridge part 15 does not become the excess thickness.
