Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roller chain wear detecting method, capable of accurately detecting the wear of a roller chain regardless of fluctuation of load to the roller chain and the polygonal movement of the roller chain, and a device to be used in executing the same. SOLUTION: A detecting portion 53 calculates the center coordinates of a roller image and the center coordinates P of a pin image from data given from a data extracting portion 52, and determines the deviation between both of the center coordinates. The detecting portion 53 compares a plurality of deviations which are calculated before the current unrecognized information is given since the previous unrecognized information has been given, and extracts the greatest value of deviation, thereby calculating the wear MPB of the outer peripheral surface of a pin 73 and the inner peripheral surface of a bush 82 and the wear MBR of the outer peripheral surface of the bush 82 and the inner peripheral surface of a roller 85.
