Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positioning assistance arm which has the advantages of both an assistance arm and robot. SOLUTION: An assistance arm is constituted so that the arm can be operated from a console panel 19 to function as a mere assistance arm on one occasion or to work as a robot or to assist workers on another occasion by respectively mounting motors 13, 17, 18, and 20 on the shafts 10, 14, 15, and 16 of the arm. A controller 25 stores teaching data and controls the operations of the motors 13, 17, 18, and 20 based on the teaching data when the assistance arm is made to work as a robot or to assist workers.
