Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately measuring the core diameter of a multi-mode optical fiber. SOLUTION: This measuring methods includes measuring the strength distribution 14 of light emitted from an optical fiber for measurement, calculating a GI(graded index)-SI(step index) boundary where the light intensity distribution sharply changes from the center of a GI type core part toward an SI type clad part, regarding the 50% value of the light intensity at the boundary as a threshold, and calculating as the core diameter a length (diameter) connecting distribution positions where the light intensity equals the threshold. The method is particularly excellent in measuring the core diameter of a multi-mode optical fiber of the type between the GI type and the SI type. |
