Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the front luminance of the back light and to expand the field angle by using as a diffusion film a thermoplastic resin film having a craze and setting the direction of the craze parallel to the cold cathode tube of a side light type back light. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic resin film 3 which has the craze 5 is used as the diffusion film and arranged so that the direction of the craze 4 is parallel to the cold cathode tube 1 of the side light type back light. This craze film 3 is obtained by making stress exceeding critical stress operate on an amourphous thermoplastic resin film and then generating the craze at right angles of the operating direction of the stress. This craze film 3 can be manufactured by drawing, so the film can easily be homogeneous and have large area. Light which is projected obliquely from a light guide plate is therefore reflected and diffused by the craze wall surface. Consequently, the quantity of light which is projected on the front is larger than that of scattered light obtained by an embossed film and the field angle can be made wide. |
