Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a system for electronic image pickup with which specified image data can be prevented from being watched except for specified equipment when transmitting recorded image data to the other equipment. SOLUTION: At an electronic still camera on the side of transmission, image data to be transmitted are set to transmission permission, afterwards, the image data set to transmission permission are successively enciphered by a CPU 10 while using a cryptographic key stored in a RAM 12, and these enciphered image data are transmitted by a transmission/reception part 13 and a light emitting element 14. When there is the cryptographic key in the RAM 12, at an electronic still camera on the side of reception, the received enciphered image data are restored by this cryptographic key. A user can watch the restored image data while displaying them on an LCD 19. When there is no coincident cryptographic key, these encipherecl image data can not be restored so as not to watch any image data.
