Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject emulsifier capable of giving a low-viscosity emulsion of high stability with low production of flocculates during the polymerization, by controlling the content of a polyalkylene glycol in the nonionic surfactant within a specific range. SOLUTION: This emulsifier comprises 99.0-95.0wt.% of a 2-4C alkylene oxide 3-10mol adduct to an 8-22C higher alcohol or alkylphenol and 1.0-5.0wt.% of a polyalkylene glycol. The alkylene oxide is typically ethylene oxide, its number of moles added being pref. 10-60 on average. The polyalkylene glycol is a polymer of a 2-4C alkylene oxide, being typically polyethylene glycol. Its preferable content in this emulsifier is 1-3wt.% and its weight-average molecular weight is pref. 1,000-4,000. |
