Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a naturally occurring antimicrobial agent having no adverse effects such as irritation, excellent in medicinal effects and stability, by including an extract of a plant of the genus Rhopala of the family Roupala as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: A wood part, a core part, a bark part, a branch part or a leaf part of a plant of the genus Rhopala of the family Roupala [e.g. R. montana] is extracted with a solvent (e.g. methanol) at 3-70 deg.C, optionally purified, diluted, concentrated, dried, etc., to give an antimicrobial agent comprising the plant of the genus Rhopala of the family Roupala. The antimicrobial agent in an amount of 0.001-20wt.% is optionally formulated with another antimicrobial agent, glycerol, a polymer thickening agent, a perfume, an oil, an ultraviolet light absorber, a chelating agent, a dyestuff, etc., to give a quasi medicine, a cosmetic or a toiletry product such as a dentifrice, a shampoo, an oily ointment, a cream, a toilet lotion, a soap, a body cosmetic, etc. |
