Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the function of a device by setting an ultrasonic wave reflection source material on the surface of a metallic cylindrical body which is a work, and comparing the reflection echo from the reflection source material by the ultrasonic flaw detection with the reflection echo detected in the same flaw detection condition in advance to easily check the detection accuracy. SOLUTION: A metallic tape 2 such as aluminum tape high in reflection echo as an ultrasonic wave reflection source material is attached to the surface of a body part of a roll 1 which is a work. A probe 3 for ultrasonic flaw detection is installed on the surface of the roll 1 separate from the tape 2 by the prescribed distance through a film of the contact medium. The ultrasonic beam is transmitted from the probe 3 in the flaw detection, the surface reflection echo to capture the tape 2 as a flaw of the roll 1 is received by the probe 3, transmitted to an ultrasonic flaw detector 5 and visualized, and indicated as the defective echo on a CRT 6. The defective echo is compared with the reflection echo data of the tape 2 which are detected in advance under the same flaw detection condition such as the arrangement of the tape 2 and the probe 3 and the roll composition in advance, and accumulated, the detection accuracy is checked, and the function of the device is corrected.
