Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing plate which is suitable for flexography and has improved surface wear resistance. SOLUTION: A metal base material 22 consisting of an aluminum alloy or a steel sheet having a thickness of about 5-20mil is coated with a polymer layer 24 consisting of a thermoplastic or elastic polymer. The polymer layer is coated with solid particles having an average particle size less than about 30μ (preferably α-alumina particle having an average size of about 1-10μ). Most solid particles 30 are pushed into the polymer layer such that they are under an outer face 31 of the polymer layer. Thus, a sheet material suitable for using as a printing plate having improved wear resistance can be manufactured.
