Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road white line recognizing device with which even a miniaturized vehicle enables on-line processing. SOLUTION: Concerning the road white line recognizing device for recognizing a white line along with the lengthwise direction of road from two-dimensional image data, the pattern of luminance change is inspected for each line corresponding to the breadthwise direction of road concerning the image data (step S32), only the image data of line having such a luminance change more than a set value are selected (step S33), the selected image data are binarized (steps S34 and S35), the connection width of significant values is found for each line concerning the binarized image data, and only the image data of line having such connection width less than a set value are selected (steps S36-S38). Afterwards, the peripheral distribution of selected image data in the breadthwise direction of road is operated and after the image data shown by this 1st peripheral distribution are binarized, only the image data having one connecting part of significant values in a direction corresponding to the breadthwise direction of road, and having the connection width less than the set value are recognized as the white line along with the lengthwise direction of road.
