Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an original read surface from being deviated from focus due to the dispersion of the precision of parts and the floating of an original by providing an energizing means supporting a transparent plate so as to freely move up and down and energizing the transparent plate to an original surface. SOLUTION: A contact type image sensor 1 is energized to the lower surface of an original platen glass 12 by an energizing spring, and a distance between the image sensor 1 on an optical unit 50 moving in a subscanning direction and the upper surface of the glass 12 is always kept constant. Meanwhile, a sheet original or a document arranged on the glass 12 is energized from above by an original cover 20 which can be opened/closed up and down, so that the read image surface is brought into contact with the glass 12. Thus, a fixed focal distance to the moving original is always guaranteed. Therefore, the contact type image sensor whose depth of focus is shallow is adopted as a reading means and the device is miniaturized in comparison with a reduction optical system using a CCD sensor and a mirror group.
